How to Care for Your FR Rainwear

Proper care of your rainwear garments will help you maximize usability and safety features. We recommend the following care and maintenance procedures to know when and how to launder your rainwear.

Care and Maintenance: The buyer/wearer must follow the care instructions here and affixed to each garment. Failure to follow these instructions will result in the product not performing as intended or expected. Additionally, all warranty claims will be void without following the proper care instructions.

When to Launder: Unlike common rainwear, NASCO rainwear is a high-performance product and requires care. It is designed to be laundered and should be performed regularly to maintain high visibility performance as well as its waterproof characteristics. The following are guidelines for when to launder.

• Fluorescent material becomes dingy or loses its brightness 
• Dirt, mud, grease, oil, or other contaminants appear on the fabric

How to Launder

Home Laundry:

• Do not use a home or public washing machine to clean rainwear contaminated with chemicals. Doing so may contaminate other garments washed afterward.
• Use a front-loading washer or another type of machine that will allow washing without the use of an agitator. Top loading agitating machines have the potential to reduce the longevity of the garment due to mechanical damage to the shell and/or the attachments. If a top-loading machine must be used, use the gentle cycle, which has a slower agitator speed, to avoid or minimize any damage from the agitator.
• Do not overload the machine.
• Launder separately from non-flame resistant garments. Lint from these garments may affect flame resistance.
• Avoid possible staining of light-colored garments; dark garments should be sorted and washed separately from light shades.
• Fasten all closures, including pocket closures, all Velcro®, snaps, zippers, hooks, and any other closures on the garment.
• Do not use any products containing sodium hypochlorite, such as chlorine bleach. Chlorine bleach may reduce garment life.
• Use warm water – 120° F maximum is recommended.
• Do not dry clean.
• Do not dry garments in a dryer. Garments should be line dried. Do not hang the garments in direct sunlight.
• Do not iron.

Industrial Laundry:

• Wash temperature should not exceed 120° F.
• Liquid detergents are recommended for best cleaning and color retention. Wash bath pH values should not exceed 9 to 10. Color loss, excessive shrinkage, and reduced garment life may result from repeated exposure to extreme temperature and pH in laundering.
